- As a culminating experience in the new General Education (GE) Programme, which will be implemented from academic year (AY) 2025/26, students are required to complete a Level 3 GE Capstone Course or a Capstone Workshop (3 units). These experiences enable students to:

- Develop empathy, social awareness and commitment to the community;
- Identify ways to strengthen professional skills and generic competencies (e.g., creativity, communication, problem-solving, and teamwork) for the common good;
- Apply knowledge and skills to address community needs through generating solutions, engaging in service, community advocacy, and/or entrepreneurship.

Design and Delivery
|
- The GE Capstone Workshop is a transdisciplinary, solution-based course designed to integrate knowledge from various disciplines and sectors. It emphasises entrepreneurship, social innovation, scientific advancement, research, and sustainable global development. Under the guidance of a faculty supervisor, students will collaborate in teams to complete a GE Capstone Workshop, devising innovative solutions to pressing issues at local, regional, and global levels.
|
- Individual faculty members, with the support of Faculty/School and Department, can offer 1 GE Capstone Workshop (i.e., 1 course code) in each AY.
|
- GE Capstone Workshop proposal:
- Format: Students will engage in a transdisciplinary project focused on entrepreneurship, social innovation, scientific advancement, or sustainable development, with an emphasis on real-world applications. They will disseminate their project outcomes to external partners and the wider community at a recognised event, such as a conference, competition, exhibition, or showcasing activity.
- The form in the annex is a shell proposal that lays out the general aims and approach of the project. The faculty member (i.e., supervisor) is encouraged to develop a detailed guideline/handbook for students after the proposal is approved. This form serves as a reference and may be updated as deemed appropriate.
- The faculty member is responsible for recruiting students from different majors/programmes to join the workshop. The recommended size of the workshop is 10 to 25 students.
- The student(s) is/are expected to meet regularly with the supervisor for lectures/seminars, discussion, and project work;

i) A progress report, learning portfolio, reflective paper, presentation, or other assignment demonstrating achievement of the course intended learning outcomes (CILOs); ii) A substantial learning products, such as a project report, competition entry, business proposal, product sample, or presentation, reflecting an in-depth, systematic and transdisciplinary study of the topic; and iii) A presentation or showcasing of this learning product delivered to external partners and the wider community at a recognised event, such as a conference, competition, or exhibition.
- Final outputs should fulfill the academic standards and rigor required by the University.
- The Capstone Workshop can be offered in any semester, including the summer semester. Workshops with course activities and assessment tasks that extend beyond the standard semester schedule should be completed within 12 months.
