GE Programme & Courses

For those admitted with non-HKDSE qualifications in AY2018/19 or after, you may apply for unit transfer in the University Core requirements and Level 1 Foundational Courses of the GE Programme for a maximum of 12 units, if you have completed equivalent courses in the other institutions before admission. The University reserves the right to refuse to grant units for courses with grades below the equivalence of grade C in the University grading system.

Additional unit exemption for other GE requirements may be considered depending on qualifications on a case-by-case basis by GEO. For detailed instructions, please click here.

You may apply for transfer of GE units if you have completed relevant courses aboard with comparable number of units*. The University reserves the right to refuse to grant units for courses with grades below the equivalence of grade C in the University grading system. If you wish to find out in advance whether the units of courses you enroll for in the exchange programme can be transferred to HKBU to fulfill GE requirements, you are welcomed to consult GEO by sending the respective course information, including course aims and objectives, course content and learning outcomes, to ge@hkbu.edu.hk.

1. For Associate Degree graduates from the College of International Education (CIE), who are admitted in AY2020/21 or after, a block transfer of 28 units in University Core and GE (shaded in yellow as shown in the table below) will be granted at the point of admission.

2.  All other Associate Degree graduates from the local institutions other than CIE will be granted a block transfer of 22 units in University Core and GE (shaded in yellow as shown in the table below) at the point of admission. Additional unit transfer or exemption for GE requirements may be considered depending on qualifications on a case-by-case basis by GEO.

3. All Higher Diploma graduates from the local institutions will be granted a block transfer of 13 units in University Core (shaded in yellow as shown in the table below) at the point of admission. Additional unit transfer or exemption for GE requirements may be considered depending on qualifications on a case-by-case basis by GEO.

4. For all other applicants for Year 3 Entry, transfer of units in GE will be considered on a case-by-case basis at the point of admission, depending on the courses you have taken previously.
