Serving the Rural Community:The Indonesian Experience

In this talk, Dr. Suryandari will present engagement activities in Fatukoto, a small village in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province, Indonesia . The talk will demonstrate how the students adjust their life on site for 45 days, interact with the community, carry out and modify their engagement program to fit with the community needs, and the most important thing, how these activities benefit the community.
Youth involvement with the community is a great way to learn about the community and the woven interaction within it. As a public university, Sebelas Maret University has launched mandatory field works for students before they graduate. The goals of the program are: to encourage students to learn the daily problems of a community and to help the community to solve the problems. For the last three years, more than 6000 students have been sent to remote villages, less developed, poor or at the country border villages in Indonesia.
The event will be held in English, and recognized as a CCL activity .
