Students-as-Partners Scheme
The “Students-as-Partners” (SaP) Scheme is a key initiative of the General Education (GE) Programme to realise the University’s commitment to delivering best student experience through innovative pedagogies. GEO provides a one-off grant to empower course instructors in implementing SaP projects across all three levels of GE courses.
Within the GE Programme, the SaP Scheme seeks to achieve the following objectives:
-
- To enhance the quality and relevance of learning experiences;
- To empower students to take ownership of learning and develop essential life-long skills; and
- To cultivate an inclusive and collaborative university culture.
Guiding Principles of the SaP Scheme
We welcome innovative ideas for implementing the SaP scheme. All partnerships should be guided by the following principles:
Eligibility
- SaPs are current HKBU undergraduate students enrolled in UGC-funded programmes.
- For postgraduate students to serve as SaPs, course instructors may seek prior approval from the GEO.
The Student Partner Role
- Student Partners are expected to be active collaborators who contribute to innovative teaching practices (such as authentic assessment, solution-based learning, or the flipped classroom model). This role is distinct from that of a student helper.
- The partnership experience should be designed to deepen the Student Partner's academic understanding and develop life-long skills (such as critical thinking, communication, problem-solving, creativity).
Project Impact
- The impact of the scheme should be sustainable and align with its core objectives of enhancing teaching and learning.
Assess Our Impact and Showcasing Success
Course instructors are invited to apply for a grant to support the implementation of SaP projects in any of the three GE course levels.
To ensure the continued growth and success of the SaP Scheme, the GEO works closely with course instructors to measure its impact. The GEO will:
-
- Collect reports, photos, and videos from SaP-supported courses to document project success.
- Work with departments to review the use of SaP subsidies, including details of expenditure items and account balances, to ensure resources are used effectively.
- Gather insights from students, instructors, and partners through surveys and interviews.
- Visit classes and activities to capture the collaborative spirit of the scheme.
- Host events where course instructors and Student Partners can share their work and experiences with the university community.
Upon satisfactory performance and completion of the required hours, a certificate of recognition will be presented by GEO to student partner.
