Connie Li. Scaling Innovation: Fostering Pedagogical Excellence with the GE Buddy Framework. Paper presented at the 10th World Conference on Research in Teaching and Education. 12 - 14 June 2026. Tokyo, Japan.

Abstract:
Navigating the VUCA landscape of contemporary higher education demands that General Education (GE) effectively cultivates essential graduate attributes. Yet, preparing educators to deliver a transdisciplinary curriculum to diverse student populations presents a significant challenge for teacher education and faculty development. This presentation addresses this gap by introducing and evaluating the “GE Buddy” programme, a novel initiative structured as a community of practice that strengthens pedagogical capacity among GE faculty. The programme’s framework is grounded in a reciprocal cycle of peer observation, reflective practice, and tailored professional development. We articulate its operational model, where participants engage in pre-observation consultations, in-class observations, and post-observation reflective dialogues. This iterative process empowers faculty to co-create and refine pedagogical strategies, directly contributing to their ongoing professional learning. Drawing on longitudinal data (2022–2025), we present evidence of the programme’s efficacy. Quantitative findings demonstrate significant impact: over 90% of participants reported enhanced pedagogical confidence and a stronger sense of professional community. Furthermore, over 85% committed to applying new strategies, and more than 80% planned to pursue transdisciplinary collaborations. These results validate the “GE Buddy” framework as a powerful mechanism for pedagogical and curricular innovation. We conclude by discussing strategies for scalability, offering a replicable model for preparing and sustaining effective educators in higher education.
