  1. Students can take any Level 1 or 2 courses of the GE Programme as free electives. Level 3 GE Capstone CANNOT be counted as free electives.
  2. For students of bulletin year 2017/18 or before, you can take courses under new curriculum to satisfy your graduation requirement. Click here for more details.
  3. Please go to the BUniport for the list of courses offered in the semester.
  4. Students of Year 3 standing or above are eligible for taking GE Capstone Course and Capstone Workshop. For student who has not reached Year 3 standing, you should obtain approval from the course offering department.

Students of the following are required to take the GFAI course to fulfil the requirement of "AI Literacy":

  i.         AY2025/26 cohort of first-year-first-degree (FYFD) students, or after;

 ii.        AY2026/27 cohort of Year 2 entrants, or after;

iii.        AY2027/28 cohort of Year 3 Senior Year entrants, or after.

 

Category Aims of GFAI:

  1. Explain the key concepts and potential uses of AI in different domains;
  2. Utilise AI tools productively in students’ personal, social, academic and professional lives;
  3. Evaluate the risks, debates, and impacts of AI, in view of being responsible users of AI tools; and
  4. Sustain human uniqueness and agency by analysing the wider effects of AI on human well-being, including creativity and innovation, critical thinking and behaviour, and sustained sense of agency while collaborating with AI for social good.

The interdisciplinary courses in this category enable students to:

  1. Recognize that cultural factors clearly have a profound influence on different outlets for creative expression, on the nature of the subject matter and form of expression, and on the functions that various forms of expression serve;
  2. Appreciate that “culture” is essential to understanding the role and responsibility of citizenship, and importantly to creativity too;
  3. Define creativity in the larger context of originality, meaningfulness, and value–and the way that this manifests itself around the world;
  4. Recognize that creativity is a way of thinking, and is a collaborative process;
  5. Understand the theoretical models that show the effect of culture on creativity in the global context.

The interdisciplinary GE Capstone courses and independent studies enable students to: 

  • Synthesize knowledge from various disciplines and to provide innovative solutions to solve a societal or global problem;
  • Value the importance of working as a team for the common good;
  • Show what has been learnt in the classroom and experiential environments can be applied to addressing an important issue faced by local, regional, and the global community.

 

Service-learning is an experiential pedagogy that integrates academic learning with service, enabling students to creatively apply their knowledge and skills to address community needs.

 

Intended Learning Outcomes:

  • Apply academic knowledge and skills to address societal issues and community needs;
  • Grow in empathy and self-understanding;
  • Develop social awareness and commitment to the community;
  • Formulate new ideas and/or perspectives about society and contributions they can make to its development;
  • Identify ways to strengthen professional skills and generic competencies (e.g., creativity, communication, problem-solving, and teamwork).
