Mr. Po CHUNG co-founded DHL International in 1972 and is the Chairman Emeritus of DHL Express (HK) Ltd. He is also the Chairman of both The Hong Kong Institute of Service Leadership & Management and The Good Life Initiative Limited.
Born in Macao, Mr. Chung has a Bachelor Degree (1969) in Fisheries Management from Humboldt State University, California and attended the Stanford Executive Program at Stanford University in 1981. He has a Master of Fine Art Degree (2006) from The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University.
Mr. Chung is a fellow member of Thunderbird School of Global Management and a member of the Stanford GSB (HK Chapter) Advisory Board.
Mr. Chung was a member of the Greater Pearl River Delta Business Council and the Hong Kong Logistics Development Council. From 1989 to 1997, Mr. Chung was a member of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the Hong Kong Tourism Board. He also served as the Chairman of the Hong Kong Arts Centre, the Vice Chairman of the Ocean Park Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Management Association. He was a trustee/governor of the Chinese International School, and served as a Member of the Board of Overseers at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University, California. He was also Honorary Advisor for the Advanced Development Academy of The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
In 2001, Mr. Chung stepped away from the commercial world and entered the education domain. In January 2006, Mr. Chung spearheaded the creation of the Centre for Asian Entrepreneurship & Business Values (CASEBV) at the University of Hong Kong, and had taught a course in Entrepreneurship in the years since.
Mr. Chung helped the placement of 20 Fulbright scholars, a program administered by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars. Over a four-year (2008–2011) initiative, these academic leaders assisted and advised Hong Kong’s eight universities on their development of a General Education Program.
Mr. Chung is the co-author of
“THE FIRST 10 YARDS – The 5 Dynamics of Entrepreneurship and how they made a difference at DHL and other successful startups” and 《草根創業的5項修煉》.He is also the author of
《落力退休》(“My entrepreneurial retirement journey”) and
Service Reborn.
Mr. Chung has been the feature speaker on corporate culture at various symposia organized by the Pacific Rim Forum, Business International, Business Week International, Young Presidents Organization, Hong Kong Management Association, China Management Association in Taiwan, Singapore National Productivity Board, Credit Suisse, The Hongkong & China Gas Co Ltd, Li & Fung, HKTDC, TEDxPearlRiver, Harvard University, various graduate schools of business, just a few to name.
Mr. Chung launches a one-day program called The Good Life Initiative Seminar which helps people design a happy, purposeful and fun-filled retirement.
As a philanthropist, Mr. Chung founded and funded the Creative Initiatives Foundation, an organization that has helped more than 50 non-profit organizations in Hong Kong to review and often redefine their vision and mission. Mr. and Mrs. Chung have rebuilt over 25 broken down school buildings in remote areas of China.
As a professional artist, Mr. Chung has had solo exhibitions of his paintings in Hong Kong, Paris, Venice, Macau (sponsored by the Government of Macao) and Germany. In 1989, he was awarded the Art Patron/Promotor of the Year by Hong Kong Artists’ Guild.
In 1995, Mr. Chung was made an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE), in recognition of his commitment to the arts community. In 2002, the Hong Kong Government awarded Mr. Chung the Silver Bauhinia Star for distinguished service to the logistics industry. Mr. Chung was conferred the 2008 Beta Gamma Sigma International Honoree and in December 2008, Mr. Chung received The University of Hong Kong’s Honorary University Fellowship. In March 2009, he received an Outstanding Third Age Citizens Award. A doctoral degree of Fine Art honoris causa was conferred to him by Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University in May 2011.
