Since the launch of a 4-year curriculum in local universities in 2012, General Education has played a vital role in Hong Kong’s undergraduate education. Three years into this switch, we believe it is time for a joint reflection on the implementation of General Education under the new curriculum, and also on the development and theory of general education in response to the challenges of the 21^st century.

The Office of University General Education, CUHK is hosting an international conference on the theme of “Foundations of General Education,” which is to take place on 12-13 June 2015. It will bring together teachers and scholars from Mainland China, Taiwan, Singapore, and the United States of America to share their experience and research on the subject. Through keynotes speeches, paper presentations, roundtable discussions and a poster session, we hope to promote fruitful exchanges on the nature, model, methodology, and assessment of General Education in and beyond Hong Kong.
