Sustainable Peace: Conflict-Resolution and Reconciliation of Divided Communities

This course introduces students to the emerging fields of Peace and Conflict Studies and Transitional Justice – including core theories and practical tools – with particular focus on the conflict dynamics and examples of progress in contemporary Europe and Asia. It equips students with the necessary conceptual tools and skills for conflict analysis in general, and attunes them to the political and socioeconomic interests and cultural sentiments of different social actors in particular conflict situations. Through lectures, role-plays, simulations, and comparative reflections, students will achieve both cognitive and experiential learning in this course, which ultimately prepares them for working towards conflict resolution and post-conflict reconciliation in their respective regions and communities by using the transferable conceptual tools.
