Cultures of Innovation and Invention in European History
This course looks at European history from the 15th to the 20th centuries with a focus on innovation and invention. It addresses the emergence of new ideas, things and technologies, new ways of thinking and communication, and new approaches to exploring nature. It analyses major developments in different areas, such as intellectual history and the world of ideas, the arts (especially the visual arts), and science and technology as well as investigating the long-term impact of these innovations on societies and their modes of life. This course will provide students with an understanding of how modernity has unfolded since the Renaissance.
