Abstract

The purpose of this seminar is to familiarize staff with the central role of assessment in the implementation of robust GE Programmes. Participants will learn about direct and indirect assessments of student learning outcomes as well as consider the role of assessment in continuous quality improvement of GE programmes. The relationship between course and programme assessment will be explored and several methods of assessment will be presented (portfolios, standardized tests, rubrics, surveys) including an examination of their relative strengths and weaknesses. Participants will be encouraged to consider the application of these assessment strategies in the context of HKBU’s developing GE programme.
