Dialogue with Ricky Wong cum GE Outstanding Students Award Presentation Ceremony

On 19 March 2015, “Breaking the Boundary! Dialogue with Ricky Wong cum General Education (GE) Outstanding Students Award Presentation Ceremony” was successfully held by the GE Office. Over 200 HKBU students and staff enjoyed the fantastic stories shared by the guest speaker and awarded students.

Mr. Ricky Wong Wai-kay, Founder and Chairman of Hong Kong Television Network Limited, was invited to share how he overcomes difficulties with creativity and achieves his personal goals with great adventure spirit and stamina. The participants were very engaged and they responded actively to Mr. Wong’s speech by asking a series of questions. To end the sharing session, Mr. Wong sent words to HKBU students that, they should not look down and set boundaries on themselves, but to pursue their own interests and goals with courage.

The award presentation ceremony of “GE Outstanding Students Award Scheme” was held immediately after the sharing session. After receiving the awards from Ms. Marianna Tsang Wai-chun, Former President/Ex-officio Director and Patron of HKBU Century Club, and Prof. A. Reza Hoshmand, Director of General Education, four of the GE award recipients shared their wonderful university life with the audience. They encouraged fellow schoolmates to think out of the box and strive for excellence in community services, personal development as well as overseas experiences, besides working hard academically.

The 4 award recipients then shared their wonderful university life with students.

Sponsored by HKBU Century Club, the “GE Outstanding Students Award Scheme” is designed to award the students who have excellent academic results in GE courses, active participation in GE activities and enthusiastic community services. A maximum of 5 students are awarded every academic year. Each of them is granted a scholarship of HK$5,000 and a certificate. In this academic year, the 5 award recipients are: Fung Ting Kwan, Kwan (Sociology and Liberal Studies Teaching, Year 3), Lam Pui Tan, Jessica (Sociology and Liberal Studies Teaching, Year 3), Woo Wing Chin, Jolie (Accounting, Year 3), Yeung Tsz Kiu, Kitty (Human Resources Management, Year 3) and Yeung Yip Hung, Yolanda (Applied Biology, Year 3) who is studying overseas and could not attend the ceremony. Kwan and Jessica actively participated in community services. Kwan visited street sleepers and went to partitioned flats to help the residents in depulization. Jessica has been providing community services in Hong Kong St. John Ambulance for a long time. In terms of personal development, Kitty participated in a lot of swimming and running competitions and Jessica eventually became one of the few Hong Kong Women’s soccer referees after continuous efforts. In addition, Jolie and Kitty had great experiences beyond Hong Kong. Jolie went to Peking University for summer exchange programme and Kitty went to Yingde city, Guangdong for voluntary teaching. They sincerely indicated that students should not just focus on striving for good academic performance, but should also participate in various activities to broaden their horizons and develop in different aspects. After the ceremony, the award recipients and guests gathered for refreshments and sharing on their recent lives in this enjoyable occasion.
