GCHC1057 Chinese Popular Music: Its Cultural and Musical Meanings

This is a really interesting history course. History always seems boring to me, but learning it through Chinese popular music makes it fun. The part I love the most is Cantonese slang songs, such as “扮靚仔” and some songs by Sam Hui. The course instructor plays a video of Sam Hui which talks about how musical creativity flowed with history and how to use songs to reflect what happened at that time in Hong Kong. I think it is really effective how she relates popular music to history and it will leave deep impression on students.
