Cityscapes: Hong Kong Neighborhoods, Urban Voices, and Other Tales of the City

What is the course about?

GDAR1806/GDSS1806 will integrate the teaching of basic ethnographic techniques of Hong Kong city spaces with narratives and stories about Hong Kong written in English. Students will learn to gather contemporary (survey and other) data about the community they call home, in addition to situate their findings within a larger historical context of how Hong Kong has been represented in English literature in the more recent (colonial) past, as well as by Hong Kong artists and other writers expressing themselves using English today.
