What is the course about?

GDSS1055 will examine major cultural, social, political and economic aspects of the contemporary European world, their historical determinants, and likely trajectories of future developments. Particular emphasis will be placed on the search for commonalities both in Europe and between Europe and the students’ home societies. Main challenges of the 21st century, such as citizens’ welfare, sustainable (“green”) economies and the nurturing of cultural diversity, are not only similar across countries but will have to be addressed in a context of international cooperation.
