What is your role as Visiting Fulbright Scholar at HKBU?

I am affiliated with the School of Business as a Professor of Management and working with the General Education (GE) Office as HKBU prepares for the 3-3-4 reform. As a member of the GE Fulbright Team, I also collaborate with other visiting Fulbright scholars at the seven UGC institutions in developing GE programmes, conducting faculty development workshops, sharing resources and expertise across our host institutions and working on initiatives that create and sustain the development of a liberal education environment.

How are you helping HKBU prepare its GE curriculum?

I work closely with Professor Hoshmand, the Director of GE, in developing and reviewing GE courses and helping colleagues see Outcome-Based Teaching and Learning as an opportunity to enhance the student experience. I will be conducting several workshops for faculty development and am happy to work one on one on how to make a GE course truly distinctive, inspiring and a bridge for students in their chosen fields.

What have you enjoyed most about teaching and living in Hong Kong?

My husband (a visiting professor at HKUST), 15-year-old daughter and I are enjoying our “study abroad” year tremendously. The best part (besides the food!) has been meeting students and learning about their lives and aspirations. Also enjoyable has been the many friendships we have developed with our colleagues, who have introduced us to the culture and the community. Our family hopes to return to Hong Kong – it feels like our second home now. I especially enjoyed leading the Operation Santa Claus University Ambassador Program as well as working with my MBA students.
